Motorized Concealed Cat Toy with Long Wand

This style of cat toy is designed to get your cat to focus and then pounce on the feathers or the ball at the end of the wand that is hidden under a plastic sheet. There are different versions of this toy. Smarty Kat has feathers at the end of their wand and Cat's Meow has a plastic ball half way up the wand on their version. Our cat found this version quite good and the ball is quite secure so there is no chance of it come off.

The plastic sheet that is placed over the wand is secured by a cap that is placed over it to keep the sheet securely in place. The on and off button is at the top of the toy.  Once you hit the button, the plastic wand moves in different directions every few seconds under the sheet.

You need to insert the batteries in this yourself. This toy doesn’t come with batteries and it requires three AAA batteries to work. It will need a bit of assembling when you get it but it shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes to put it together. The wand part is the only part that is visible to your cat.  All the parts in this set are detachable so it is easy to take it apart and put it back in the box.

Advantages

  • Since the on/off button is on the top of the toy it is very easy to switch on and off.

  • It is a great toy to use to keep kittens entertained.

  • If you have a high energy cat, this toy might be useful to help burn out their energy.

  • If the wand breaks, you can repurchase another one to replace it.

  • This toy is suitable to be used on a carpet or tiled floor.

  • Since the toy isn't too noisy, it shouldn’t scare a timid cat.

  • Some models of this toy have two to three setting which dictate how fast the wand will move.

  • This toy isn’t just designed for kittens; it is also designed for fully grown cats.

Disadvantage

  • This cat toy makes a humming noise when it is on. The motor is what drives the wand back and forward under the plastic sheet so if you hate toys that make any kind of noise, this won't be one you will like.

  • The Cat's Meow toy does knock itself off, but the Smarty Kat one doesn't, so you need to determine how long you want to leave it on for, if it isn't doesn't automatically knock off by itself.

  • If your cat loves to bite and pull at things, then they will figure out how to get the wand of the device and they will most likely break it or cause the motor to burn out.

  • Some versions of this cat toy have a feather at the end of the wand and other versions have a plastic ball, so you need to be careful your cat doesn't ingest either of them.

  • The plastic covering can ball up if your cat pulls at it to get to the wand underneath.

  • It can only be played with by one cat at a time.

  • Some cats could rip the plastic if they try to play with this instead of the wand.
