Three Tiered Cat Tree

This type of cat tree has three different tiers where your cat can perch or lie down on. Both tier one and tier two have toys which hang down from the tier so your cat can play with them while sitting on any of the platforms. They can also play with them while they are sitting on the ground beside the cat tree. There is also one scratching post that is made from sisal material. The whole cat tree is 27.5 inches in height which is the height of the third tier. It is 19.5 inches long and wide. Each platform is 12 inches wide. The first tier is 10.5 inches in height and the second is19 inches. Cat trees usually require you to assemble them yourself but most time this involves screwing the posts into the base.  The base of the tree and the platforms are covered is soft fabric to protect your cat and the wood.

 Advantages

  • Cat trees can also be used by other animals like rats, gerbil and rabbits.
  • Cat trees are easy to assemble as they usually only require you to screw the post into the base of the cat tree.
  • The toys attached to the cat tree cat keep your cat entertained while they are sitting on any of the platforms and since the toys are attached to the tree they won't get lost.
  • The sisal scratching post allows the cat to keep its claws in check by scratching the post.
  • If the cat tree is tall enough, it can be placed by a window. Your cats can then perch on the tallest platform and watch the birds out the window.
  • Since the platforms are covered with fabric, your cat can lie down and curl up on any of the platforms.
  • If the cat tree platform is encased with support around the sides, there is no chance that your cat will fall off the platform when sleeping.
  • Cat trees are a great way to help kittens burn off excess energy as the three platforms allow them to jump up and down from different levels.

Disadvantage

  • Some of these cat trees can be very unstable and only suitable for kittens or small cats.
  • The base might not be wide enough to support the weight of the structure. That means that the structure might be unstable and fall apart when some cats use it.
  • The toys that hang from the platforms can become loose as the twine used to secure them to the platform is not always indestructible especially if your cat loves to put them in their mouth and pull at them with their teeth.
  • The screws supplied with these types of cat trees might not have as strong a threading as normal so posts can become loose with use.
  • The platforms on the cat tree vary from cat tree to cat tree so it is important that you make sure that the measurement is wide enough for your cat to sit on them. Otherwise they will not have enough space to lie on it.
  • Cats can over time rip the material of the posts if they keep scratching and pulling at it with their claws.
  • Some cat trees have more than one scratching post on them, so if you have more than one cat using it, the others can go to the other scratching posts.
