Using plastic feeding bowls for your cat are actually not as great as you might think. You are better off using a stainless steel or a ceramic bowl for their food and water.

You need to consider the following things when you are buying food and water bowls for your cat

  • Is it durable?
  • What does it cost?
  • What type of material is it made from?
  • Is it easy to clean?
  • Is it safe for my cat to eat out of this bowl?

The Best Food Bowl for Your Cat

In fact buying non glazed ceramic bowls or stainless steel bowls is better as they can be easier to clean and they can be cleaned in the dishwasher as well. Think of it like this when you are buying feeding bowls, if you wouldn’t eat from this bowl, then why should your cat eat from it.

Why Plastic Bowls Are Bad for Your Cat?

Plastic bowls are one of those items that are really affordable to buy. They can be purchased in any pet shop and you can usually get a two in one bowl like the one above. However, the thing with plastic bowls is that if they drop on the ground they can break and your cat could get scratched by it. It is also a hotbed for bacteria like E. coli and Salmonella as they can hide in the cracks of the plastic.

Cleaning Your Cat’s Feeding Bowl

Every time that you feed your cat, you need to give them a clean food and water bowl. When they have finished their food, wash their bowl and have it ready for the next feed. Not cleaning food bowls could in fact lead to a build-up of E. coli or Salmonella on them.

In fact it would be better to have four food bowls for your cat because that way you will always have a clean bowl on hand for your cat if one is in the dishwasher.
