Plastic Feeding Mat versus Washable Feeding Mat

plastic feeding mat and washable feeding mat for cats.
Cat feeding mats

Both of these mats are totally different. The pink one is very compact and small and can be cleaned with a damp cloth. The blue feeding mat with the paw print is large, easy to clean in the washing machine and good at keeping food off the floor.

The difference between these two feeding mats is the material used. The pink one is a hard plastic and the blue mat is made from a material similar to a doormat. The pink one is smaller than the blue one and would hold less bowls, while the blue feeding mat is larger and could hold three bowls.

Review of the Pink Mat

 Advantages

  • This mat prevents the food that falls out of your cats bowl getting onto your floor.

  • This mat is very easy to wipe clean with a cloth or some kitchen towel.

  • This feeding mat is small and compact and can hold a water bowl and a feeding bowl.

  • When this mat is placed on the floor, it does not move around.

  • If food falls onto this feeding mat, it can be picked up from the mat and the mat can then be wiped down with a damp cloth.

  • If water falls onto this feeding mat, all you need to do is wipe it off with a cloth.

Disadvantage

  • Since this feeding mat is made from plastic, when it needs to be replaced, it will need to be put in the landfill bin, not the recycling.

  • The range of colors that these mats come in won’t suit everybody's color scheme.

  • Some owners might not like items made from plastic.

Review of Blue Mat

Advantages

  • This mat also collects any loose food that falls out of your cats food bowl. It prevents it getting on your floor.

  • This feeding mat is made of quite a strong but flexible material, so it is washable.  You should get a year or two out of this feeding mat.

  • This feeding mat can be cleaned in the washing machine if it gets dirty.

  • Most of the colors for this type of feeding mat are very neutral and should work in any room.

Disadvantage

  • If your cat gets their claws stuck in it, and they pull their paw away, it will knock over all of the feeding bowls.

  • If food falls onto this mat and it isn’t picked up straight away, it will sit on the mat and you will have to clean it in the washing machine to get the food out of it.

  • It can absorb excess water if your cat accidentally spills their water bowl on it.

Each mat has good as well as bad points. So depending on the type of floor you have and how messy your cat is, then they will be the deciding factors in which one you choose.
