If you have an indoor cat then you know that one of the things that you need to do on a regular basis is clean their litter tray.  There are many types of litter trays on the market but one that many cat owners use is the open cat litter tray.

When you have an indoor cat, you need give the litter tray a general clean every day or so and a full clean at lease twice a week.  This might increase if you have a cat that pees a lot.

When you use the open cat litter tray, one way to reduce the amount of cleaning you have to do is to start using cat litter tray liners sheets. These are available to buy in any pet store or online.  There are different brands on the market and sizing can vary among them.

Advantages

  • If you decide to use liners in your cat’s litter tray it will reduce the number of times you have to clean the litter tray. Instead of having to wash the litter tray, you just replace the liner and add then add clean cat litter.
  • The liners for the litter tray go over the tray and hang out over the sides. Most brands on the market are a standard fit but always check the sizing to be sure.
  • It’s easy to remove the dirty liner containing the dirty cat litter by gathering up the four corners and tying them together in the center.
  • The liners can be adjusted to fit any shape of litter tray as long as you have the correct measurements.
  • The large size liner sheets can be tucked under the litter tray and once the litter is dirty, you just tie the ends together.
  • There are different sizes of cat liners on the market so you should be able to find one for whichever type of litter tray you have.
  • If you buy the jumbo size liners you should be able to use them with the closed litter boxes but always be aware that they could rip when you are connecting both parts.

Disadvantages

  • They do say that they can be used with closed litter boxes but liners can be a bit tricky to use with litter boxes as there are two parts that are sealed with clips. Some brands of closed litter boxes are airtight so there could be the chance that the liner could get ripped when you are trying to seal the four corners.
  • If you have a cat that likes to scratch at your curtains or the kitchen table then they will probably start scratching at this liner too. Most brands say they are strong enough to withstand this but any cat owner knows if a cat wants to rip something, then they will. Also if they do end up ripping the liner then the dirty litter will fall out into the litter tray.
  • They can be an expensive item to be purchasing on a long term basis if you can't find a brand that is affordable. Most brands only sell them in packs of five or ten and prices vary from $2 to $6. This isn’t a lot but over time it can add up
  • The quality and strength of liners will vary between brands so always shop around and check the sizing offered by each brands before you buy one.
  • Some brands are scented as well as unscented and while you might be tempted to buy the scented brands you need to think about who will be using these. Some cats detest strong fragrances and this could then put them off using the litter tray.
  • If you buy the wrong size liners and you then try to stretch the liner out toward the sides of the litter tray then there is a chance it could end up ripping.

Conclusion

Before you invest in any type of liners for your cat's litter tray check out the customer reviews on them and always purchase the cheapest brands before you invest in the dearest brand.

If you are a cat owners who detest having to clean your cat's litter tray, then using litter tray liners can be a good purchase for you.
