Merino Wool Cat Cave Bed

Merion wool cat cave

Merino wool is advertised as being a very soft but also a very strong fibre.  It is one of those fibres that will keep your cat warm on cold winter nights but keep them cool on hot summer nights. Merino wool comes from sheep which are reared in many countries worldwide.

The *merino wool cat cave will be more expensive than most cat beds but if you are looking for a cat bed made from natural fibres then this would be one you would choose. While it is supposed to be odor proof, nothing is every as simple as that and unless you get it directly from an original manufacturer then you never can really confirm if it is actually original merino wool.

Advantages

  • Since the cat cave is made from merino wool it will be super soft but also very flexible as it is easy to flatten. If your cat likes to sit on top of things then they won’t have a problem with trying to sit on top of this cave.
  • If you have to travel somewhere, you will also be able to flatten it and store it away.
  • Most of the cat caves that are made from merino wool will come from Nepal and they try to use non toxic methods when they are producing products from this wool. So your cat should be safe from any form of chemicals while they are in it.
  • Manufacturers of merino wool products state that merino wool does not hold onto odors but instead repeals them as smells don’t build up which then allows bacteria to form which causes smells.
  • Also these cat caves are quite large so you cat should have loads of space to hide inside them.

Disadvantages

  • These type of cat caves are very expensive to purchase so before you buy one do shop around to see who has the best prices
  • Even if you buy it with the best of intentions, some cats just won’t like this type of material. In fact they might simply never use it which is such a waste of money.
  • Since these cat caves have no solid structure once they lose their shape, you won’t ever be able to get the original structure back to what it was.
  • You cannot wash these in the washing machine. Manufacturers state that they don’t hold smells but if it gets dirty, you are going to want to wash it.
  • If you have a cat who likes a challenge then this soft cat cave is not going to withstand a strong cat who likes to chew or scratch at things. Most likely he will have a hole or two in it within 24 hours.
  • If you don’t buy it from a reputable seller, you might actually not be getting an original merino cat cave.

Conclusion

When you are looking at buying one of these cat caves be sure to shop around and check out online the name of the manufacturer who produces the cat cave.

Ensure that they are made from original merino wool and not a synthetic fibre. Check out the reviews online from other buyers to see if they are happy with the final product.

Also make sure if you are buying it online that they don’t flatten it down into a bag because the cave will lose its original shape and it will be unlikely that you will be able to get it back to that again.
